Attorney Miguel Elys has an extensive background in immigration, business, and criminal law. He attended the University of South Florida Business School and went on to complete a law degree in Venezuela from University Central de Venezuela. Later, he obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa School of Law in 2022.
As a law student in Venezuela, he participated in academic research with the Attorney’s Association of Caracas and remained engaged in legally assisting underserved communities. His litigation practice in Venezuela included corporate work, criminal, administrative, and family law. In advocating for business professionals, he provided legal advice to established businesses in Venezuela by serving as a member of the boards of directors and by accepting appointments to special external litigation committees.
At the University of Iowa, he was the treasurer of the Environmental Law Society. Upon completion of his Juris Doctor degree and passing the Florida Bar Exam, he was cleared to practice law in the state of Florida. Thereafter, he became a prosecutor for the State of Florida in Orange County, Orlando. His professional experience as a prosecutor provided the necessary skills and expertise to succeed in the field of immigration.
As a Latin American, he is hyperaware of the realities of the region and remains empathetic to his clients’ needs and interests. His combined experience as a former prosecutor in the U.S. and as a licensed attorney in Venezuela provide him with a unique set of resources with which to help his clients succeed.
